HELEN JANE SMITH
BSC. PGCE. PGDIP. INTEGRATIVE PYSCHOTHERAPY
I am a qualified BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) registered counsellor with a Person-Centred integrative approach. This means I work in a caring, non-judgemental and honest way to listen to your experiences and build in skills and techniques to help you to cope better and thrive.
Like many therapists I am driven to practice counselling through my own life experience - and my 20 year career in education and caring professions informs my counselling and psychotherapy practice.
What is a Counselling Session like?
When you attend a 50 minute counselling session, I initially listen to why you are coming to counselling and design therapy to cater for your individual needs.
As well as providing you with valuable time to talk about your experiences, feelings and thoughts, in a warm, caring and honest way, sessions include learning skills to enable insight, catharsis, connection and change, and time to reflect on everyday life between sessions.
Usually, after 4 sessions, you will begin to see things differently, beginning your journey to improved mental well being.
Each person is unique and, for some, 6-8 sessions of counselling enable goals of therapy to be reached whilst others require deeper psychotherapy to explore issues which may take a longer period of time.
